Dr. Eric Chafetz
DVM, Diplomate ABVP, Specialty Canine and Feline

Dr. Chafetz, born and raised in New York City, graduated from Cornell University in 1976, and received his D.V.M. from Cornell in 1980.  After practicing near Albany, New York, he joined the Henry Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital of the ASPCA in New York City in 1981.  At that time the Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital was the fourth largest hospital in the country.   In 1985 he became head of medicine and staff surgeon at the hospital, and remained there until 1989 when he joined the Vienna Animal Hospital.  In 1987 he sat for, and passed his board exams, and became a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, a level of expertise attained by less than 800 of the 75,000 veterinarians practicing in the United States and Canada.  Unlike other specialty boards, the ABVP required recertification every 10 years, and Dr. Chafetz has resat and passed in 1997 and 2007.  He has also been an editor for a prestigious national veterinary journal, The Compendium of Continuing Education for the Practicing Veterinarian.   Dr. Chafetz, his wife Diana, a pre-school teacher, and their 2 children, Aaron and Emma have lived in Vienna since 1989. Currently their house is ruled by their 9 years old mixed breed dog Tikka. Dr. Chafetz has been active in youth sports in Vienna, serving on boards in Little League, Babe Ruth, and the Vienna Baseball foundation, as well as coaching baseball, basketball and lacrosse.  His hobbies include, obviously, baseball, as well as reading and politics.
