Dr. Zhang was born and raised in Beijing, China, and began her academic journey in the United States as and exchange student. She earned a master’s degree in Agricultural & Resource and Economics from UC Davis before pursuing a PhD at the University of Maryland, College Park, where she discovered her true passion was for patients with paws and claws, not plots and data. She went on to complete a pre-veterinary program and received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from UC Davis in 2021.  

Following her graduation, Dr. Zhang completed a small animal rotating internship at Dogs and Cats Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital in Maryland. She then served as an emergency veterinarian at Regional Veterinary Referral Hospital in Springfield, where she further developed her skills in urgent and critical care. She is pleased to have recently joined the team at Vienna Animal Hospital and looks forward to contributing to the health and well-being of pets in this community.  

Dr. Zhang lives in Vienna with her dog, Sai, and her clever African Grey parrot, Handa. In her free time, she enjoys playing the piano, hiking, and tennis.  

Her professional interests include neurology and surgery, and she has completed an externship at Bush Veterinary Neurology Service.
